He died January 22, 1996, in Tulsa. Funeral services were held January 24 at Salem Baptist Church, where he was a member. Officiating the services was Rev. Chuck SCHILLING, assisted by Rev. John RILEY. Interment was at the Harjo Family Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 539. He attended Ryal School and Graham High School. He was a staff sargeant in the U.S. Army and a veteran of World War II. After the war, he worked for General Motors in Long Beach, CA, and then Eagle-Picher Smelter in Henryetta for 21 years. He also was retired from the Indian Health Service in Okmulgee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Selah and Joker HARJO; two brothers, John HARJO and Noah HARJO; and one grandson. He was survived by his wife, Blanche Harris HARJO, whom he married October 21, 1940, in Eufaula; his three daughters, Joyce ELLIG of Tulsa, Diana LUELLEN of Jenks, and Janice FOWLER; his son, Bubba HARJO of Henryetta; one brother, Joe HARJO of Okmulgee; one sister, Melissa STAR of Henryetta; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
