She died January 24, 1999, in Okemah. Wake services were held January 27 with funeral following January 28, both services were held at the High Springs Baptist Church, where she was a member. Officiating the funeral were Rev. Wayne HARJO, Rev. George DOYLE, and Rev. Felix TIGER. Pallbearers were Chris DUNSON, Joseph DUNSON, Dug SHARP, Terry YAHOLA, Justin YAHOLA, Daniel DUNSON, Bradley WILSON, Ricky CANTRELL, Phil JACKSON, Bob JACKSON, Kelly SADONGEI, and Jeffery PHILLIPS. Honorary pallbearers wee Jerry MONDAY, Leo BLAND, Sid BIRDSON, John LEWIS, Percy SHARP, Darrell TIGER, Eugene HARJO and Joseph HARJO. Interment was at the Yahola family cemetery. She belonged to the Bear Clan. She and her sister Annie were orphaned by the death of their mother in an epidemic around 1910, when Edna was eight. They were raised by Albert and Yarna BURGESS. They both attended boarding school at Nuyaka Mission, and later Dwight Mission and Haskell Indian School in Lawrence, KS. She was devoted to the High Springs church and was considered the mother of the church. She served as church secretary, MUM treasurer, Sunday school teacher, and delegate to the Muskogee, Seminole and Wichita Indian Baptist Association and the convention. Early in her life she wrote many obituaries in the Creek language for ministers who couldn’t read English. She taught Creek culture in public school in Okemah when invited. She was the daughter of March MONDAY and Lizzie London Randall MONDAY, both deceased. She was married to Willie E. YAHOLA August 24, 1920, in Okmulgee. He preceded her in death on November 18, 1973. She was also preceded in death by her two daughters, Berdina Minnie YAHOLA and Elizabeth YAHOLA; two brothers, Jackson Lewis MONDAY, and Martin MONDAY; and her sister Annie Monday TIGER. She is survived by her son, Raymond Ellis YAHOLA of Oklahoma City; her four daughters, LaDonna YAHOLA-SHARP of Okemah, Lowena YAHOLA-BIRDSON of Dallas, TX, Novena YAHOLA of Irving, TX, and Madelina YAHOLA-SEAGO of Carrollton, TX; 11 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
