He died February 3, 1986, at his home. Funeral services were held February 6 at the Webb Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J. E. WARN officiating. No other details of his funeral were given. He was a member of Greenleaf Indian Baptist Church. Interment was at the family cemetery under the direction of the Webb Funeral Home. He was the son of Tobler and Jemima COON and became a Creek artist. He had attended Buckeye School and served in the U.S. Army after being drafted on November 25, 1942. He served in Germany and was later transferred to the Philippine Islands and served there until his discharge on September 8, 1946. On September 19, 1946, he married Lula May WEST in Okemah. He is survived by seven sons and one daughter; Glen COON of Burlington, WI, Amos COON of Tulsa, Bucky COON of Oklahoma City, Stacy COON of McCloud, and Phillip COOK, Jr., Manuel COON, Wendell COON and Janice COON, all of Okemah; one sister, Nevada SIMMERS of Okmulgee; and several grandchildren.
