She died on her birthday, November 2, 1986, in a Tulsa hospital. Funeral services were held November 6 at Thlewarle Indian Church with Rev. Jimmy ALEXANDER officiating, assisted by the Rev. Roley Haynes. Interment was in the Fife Cemetery. She had just recently been named as "Outstanding Indian Mother of the Year" for 1986 by the Oklahoma Federation of Indian Women. She was a homemaker and reported community news for a local newspaper. She had been the 1934 valedictorian graduate of Chilocco Indian School. She studied teaching at Santa Fe Indian School and Adams State Teachers College in Colorado and the University of Oklahoma and taught at at the Sherman Institute in Riverside, CA, and Graham Public School in Weleetka. She was active in school, community, and Creek tribal affairs. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Hannah FIFE in 1938. Her survivors include her husband, James FIFE of the home, and her children, Bill FIFE of Bryant, Timmie FIFE and Bryan FIFE, both of Dustin, Jimmie Fife STEWART of Washington, Sharon MOUSS of Henryetta, Phyllis Fife PATRICK of Stillwell, Sandy WILSON of Morris, and Robin FIFE of Tahlequah; one brother, Robert GRIFFIN of Weleetka; three sisters, Esther BALES of Norwalk, CA, Adeline FEATHERS of Hughson, CA, and Joan GRIFFIN of Los Antlers, CA; 19 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
