He died March 27, 1991, in St. John’s Hospital in Tulsa. Funeral servicers were held March 20 (30?) at Montezuma Baptist Church in Okemah with Rev. Kyle TAYLOR and Rev. Willis KNIGHT officiating. Pallbearers were Gary PICKETT, William SHADE, Wesley SHADE, Roger WATERDOWN, Ronnie PROCTOR and Sean DEERE. Honorary pallbearers were Lynn HOGAN, Jimmy DEERE, and Dean DEERE. Burial was in the Montezuma Cemetery. He was retired from Okmulgee Glass Company. He was preceded in death by one son, Eunice DEERE. He was married to Selee ROBERTS on May 1, 1931, in Okemah. She survives. His other survivors include one daughter, Lula Mae MESSER of Okmulgee; three sons, Tom DEERE and Sammy DEERE, both of Badland, TX, and Wilson DEERE of Liberty Mounds; nieces Rhoda BURGESS, Ruth GAMBLE, Josephine MORGAN, Lorine CHICK, and Marion DAVIS; nephews, Little Joe SMITH, Big Joe SMITH, Eddie SMITH and Sam SMITH; 18 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren.
