He died September 10, at a Tulsa hospital. A traditional Creek song service was held September 13 at the residence, conducted by Tuskegee Indian Baptist Church, followed by funeral services September 14 at the P.R. Ewing Cemetery at Eufaula with Rev. Belvin “Pudgy” HILL officiating. He was a graduate of Eufaula High School and attended Bacone College before entering the U.S. Army at the beginning of World War II, and serving in the Mediterranean European Theater of Operations where he was awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart. He finished his undergraduate education at Southeastern State College and his master of science degree at Oklahoma State University. He worked as a teacher and principal in BIA schools in South Dakota, spent many years in health education with the Indian Health Service and served from 1963-1970 as assistant chief and chief in the IHS’s Office of Tribal Affairs in Oklahoma City. He was retired in 1980. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 79 of McAlester, and a life member of the Disable American Veterans. He was the son of David and Ora Ola Ewing DREW, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Robert Ewing DREW, Jr., and David Daniel DREW, Jr.; two sisters, Lee Ola DREW and Eloise Drew MCCARTY. His survivors include his two daughters, Iris Ann DREW of the home, and Precilla Gail BROWN of Muskogee; his two sons, Stanley Ray DREW of AZ, and Michael Todd DREW of McAlester; two sisters, Mrs. Nina NOTARO of Dallas, and Mrs. Ruth WAGONER of Claremore; one brother, Fred DREW of Milan, NM; his mother-in-law, Minnie SIMMONS, and a sister-in-law, Pokie EVERETT, both of McAlester; six granddaughters, two grandsons and numerous nieces and nephews.
