Dunson MCELROY was born November 17, 1924, in Okemah. She died July 17, 1991, at her home south of Okemah. Wake services were held July 19 at Webb’s Funeral (Home) followed by graveside services at Highland Cemetery with Rev. Ray McGILBRAY officiating. She attended school in Wewoka, Bearden and Haskell Institute. She was an active member of Thlopthlocco United Methodist Church south of Okemah and of the American Legion Auxiliary in Okemah for many years. She was the daughter of Rev. Thomas and Susie Walker DUNSON, both deceased. She was preceded in death by her brother Frank DUNSON, and her sister, Lucille DUNSON. She was married to Paul R.McELROY on November 9, 1952, and they lived for 30 years in Tempe, AZ, before returning to Okemah in 1985. Her survivors include her husband, of the home; four children, Kathy SMITH and Thomas Dunson MCELROY of San Diego, CA, Paul R. MCELROY, Jr., of Phoenix, AZ, and Julie Virginia SPEER of Middletown, RI; six grandchildren, Jessica, Maggie, Claira and Natalie SMITH, Anthony MCELROY, and Casey Tyler SPEER; brothers, Rev. Earl DUNSON of Glenpool, and Jonas DUNSON and Gene DUNSON of Wetumka; sisters Agnes CANARD and Virginia WEBB, both of Okemah, and Kathryn SCOTT of Concord, CA.
