He died November 14, 1993, at Carl Albert Indian Hospital in Ada. Funeral services were held November 17 at Newtown United Methodist Church, with Rev. Sam CHUPCO officiating. No names were given for pallbearers, but honorary pallbearers were Curtis SIMMERS and Bob PERRY. Interment was in the Okmulgee Cemetery Military Circle. He attended Okmulgee Public Schools and was a retired electrical lineman. He also spent most of his life as a horse trainer. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, 1942-45, and was awarded the Silver Star, four Bronze Stars, and the Purple Heart. He was also a veteran of the Battle of Guadalcanal. He was the son of Porter E. and Stella Haynes COX, both deceased. He married Dorothy L. KAILEY of Morris in 1947, and in 1966 he married Pauline Bromley WADLEY of Okmulgee. His wife, Pauline, survives him. Also surviving are his son, Rufus “Buddy” COX, Jr., of Oklahoma City; his daughter, Carolyn TORIX of Okmulgee; one brother, Claude COX of Okmulgee; one sister, Ann GORDON of Okmulgee; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, four stepchildren, three stepgrandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
