She died February 1, 1993, at her home. Funeral services were held February 4 at Sand Creek Baptist Church, where she was a member. Rev. Harry ANDERSON and Mose SCOTT officiated the service. Pallbearers were Daniel COACHMAN, Darrell COACHMAN, Darrell HUDSON, Sam MARTIN, Steve WILSON, and Jimmie JONES. Honorary pallbearers were Alabama Ceremonial Ground members. She was raised in Hughes County and attended Mingo and Moss Schools. As a child, she attended Thewarle Methodist Church. In 1964, she became a member of Sand Creek Baptist Church. She was the daughter of Yana and Nicey Lowe JOHNSON, both deceased. She was married at 18 to Bill McGIRT, who died in May 1950, and in 1952 she married Joseph Canard, who died in 1983. Others who preceded her in death were her oldest son, Robert McGIRT in 1992; and her oldest granddaughter, Lynn Allison HICK in 1985. She was survived by one son, Fredrick McGIRT of Oklahoma City; three daughters, Frances HICKS , Mary JONES, and Dee Ann YARGEE, all of Wetumka; one brother, Cecil JOHNSON of Los Angeles, CA; one sister, Emma HUDSON of Mustang; 15 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
