She died Octobe 6, 1993, at Creek Nation Community Hospital in Okemah. Funeral services were held October 9 at Buckeye Creek Baptist Church, where she was a member. Rev. George DOYLE officiated the service. Pallbearers were Arthur POWELL, Isaac WALTERS, Curtis HICKS, Oscar HICKS, Andy HICKS, and Andrew HARLEY. Interment was at the family cemetery. She was active in the Buckeye Creek church and served as women’s leader and church treasurer. She was the daughter of Charlie and Hettie COKER, both deceased. On April 11, 1921, she was married to Cheparney Afanokee HICKS, deceased, and together they had twelve children. She also was preceded in death by sons, Billy HICKS, Edward HICKS, and Jesse HICKS. She is survived by daughters, Louise BURGESS of Welty, Maggie HILL and Joann POWELL, both of Bristow; sons, Wilson HICKS, Banson HICKS, and Hanson HICKS, all of Okemah; she also is survived by the five children she was a foster parent to: Thomas COKER of Tulsa, Aggie BEAVER and Johnnie HICKS, both of Wetumka, and Terry HICKS and Mary WALTERS, both of Okemah; 34 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
