He died July 17, 1994, at his home. Funeral services were held July 19 at Salt Creek Baptist Church, where he was a member. Rev. Bill BEAVER and Jim WESLEY officiated the service. Pallbearers were his grandsons. Interment was in the Barnes Family Cemetery. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was employed in Oklahoma City as a municipal park foreman. He held many positions at the Salt Creek church, including deacon, Sunday school superintendent, teacher, church treasurer, trustee and business moderator. He was the son of Thales and Annie Penn BARNES, both deceased. He was survived by his wife, Lela Barnett BARNES, whom he married November 17, 1941; his two sons, Charles Toma BARNES of the home, and Sidney BARNES of Tulsa; his four daughers, Malinda Ann GIBSON of Chickasah, Gloria JONES of Holdenville, Micki DEER of Wetumka, and Paul HERROD of Shawnee; one granddaughter, Summer Leigh BARNES of the home; a sister, Betty HOTULKA of Wetumka; a half-sister, Rose Marie MARTIN of Henryetta; 23 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
