He died August 15, 1994, at a Tulsa hospital. Funeral services were held August 17 at Smith Chapel officiated by Scottish Rite Degree team and Rev. Larry GASTON. Pallbearers were Bob DANIELS, Dan GEORGE, Don ROBERTS, Dick PYLE, Joe LeMASTERS, and Charlie PETERSON. Interment was in the Greenlawn Cemetery. He was an attorney, a Muscogee Nation Supreme Curt Justice, vice-president of the National American Indian Judicial Association, and a member of Checotah Masonic Lodge 86 AF & AM, Checotah International Order of Odd Fellows Lodge, Bedouin Shrine, and Shrine Jesters. He was also a muncipal judge and a member of Checotah United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Nicy Howell HAYES, and a sister. His survivors include his wife, Carroll Harris HAYES, whom he married February 2, 1963; his two sons, Bret HAYES and Jay HAYES, both of Checotah; a granddaughter, Brittnee HAYES of Checotah; a brother, Tom HAYES of Mineola, TX; three uncles, Lee HAYES of Checotah, Forest HAYES of Muskogee, and Wilburn HAYES of CA; and four aunts, Elma MYERS and Marie TEWELL, both of CA, Wynema MARSHALL of OR, and Mildred DENSON of Checotah.
