He died March 30, 1994, at Creek Nation Community Hospital. Funeral services were held April 2 at Newtown United Methodist Church, where he was a member. The services were officiated by Rev. Jerry BAKER and Rev. Mike HARJO. Pallbearers were Rusty POWELL, Butch POWELL, Charlie HICKS, Tobias SIMMERS, Jr., Kabeah BEAR, and Giant BEAR. Interment was in the Miller Memorial Cemetery. He was a retired construction worker and a U.S. Army decorated veteran of World War II. He married Nevada WILLIAMS in 1942. He was the son of Sam and Sarah Miller SIMMERS, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by a brother, David POWELL; and two sisters, Pauline GRAYSON and Bernice HICKS. He was survived by his two sons, Sam SIMMERS of Okmulgee, and Abraham SIMMERS of Tulsa; his two daughters, Lois HICKS of Okmulgee, and Abby SIMMER of Tulsa; one brother, Curtis SIMMERS of Bristow; three sisters, Ester VAN WOUDENBERG, Rebecca AUTABO, and Priscilla KABEAH, all of Okmulgee; and a grandson.
