She died in October 1995. Funeral services were held October 16 at Newtown United Methodist Church, where she was a member. Rev. David LONG, Jr., officiated the service. No information was given on the place of interment. She was educated in Vann’s Lake district, Bacone College, The University of Chicago, The University of Oregon, The University of California, and Northeastern State University. She was very active in the Newtown church since joining after her marriage. She worked in the Oklahoma Indian Missionary Conference, served as OIMC treasurer for seven years, served seven years as executive secretary of the OIMC United Methodist Women, and taught Sunday school. She also taught at Vann’s Lake Comunity and in public and Indian schools for a total of 29 years. After her retirement from teacing, she became president and a member of Vann’s Lake Extension Club, and served on both Sequoyah Boarding School and Muscogee Nation committees. She was preceded in death by her parents, Amanda Herrington and John C. COUCH; her husband, Samuel Lee MILLER, whom she married in 1930 at Newtown; a brother, Roy COUCH; a sister, Gertie NEWBERRY; and a granson, Merle Lee CHASE. She was survived by her son, Samuel Doyle MILLER of Canton, Michigan; her daughter, Sandra CHASE of Cypress, CA; sister, Allie Belle CORWIN of Wagoner; brother, Johnnie COUCH of South Point, OH; grandchildren, Stephen, Joanna, and Gregory MILLER, all of Canton, Michigan, and Tina, Walton, and Sarah Whitebird CHASE, all of Cypress, CA; great grandchildren, Amy MILLER, Andrew Gleisten CHASE, and Kristin Hayes MILLER.
