W. Boulanger, 80 dies today; Death unexpected. Isaac Walter Boulanger, 80, a member of the White Hair band of Osage Indians, died unexpectedly this morning at 1:45AM at his home at 900 W. Maple. Death was attributed to a heart attack. Mr. Boulanger had been an Independence resident since 1923. Funeral arrangements are pending, but will be announced by the Potts Funeral Home. Mr. Boulanger, one of a family of eleven children, was a son of Joseph William and Sarah (Cronk) Boulanger. He was born on September 6, 1879 in rural Elgin. His father had been an interpretor on the Osage council. His wife, Rachel, whom he had married in 1899, died in 1908. They were parents of six children. Later, Mr. Boulanger was married to Grace Sharp who died in March, 1930. In April, 1935, Mr Boulanger and Miss Mary Alderman united in marriage. Surviving with the wife are seven children Mrs. Lenora Hill of Boulanger, Okla., Mrs. Eldridge (Nell) Roach of Colorado Springs, Walter Joseph Boulanger of Bartlesville; Miss Beverly Boulanger, a student nurse at St. John's School of Nursing in Tulsa, Ronald Lee, Darrell William and Karen Philomenia Boulanger of the home. Mr Boulanger had also reared two grandchildren, Mrs. Louis (Ina) James and Miss Christine Wood. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, four brothers, Harrison and Steve Boulanger of Elgin, Charles Boulanger of Caney, and Virgil Boulanger of the city. Two sisters Mrs. Eddie (Lila) Hinbury of Los Angeles and Mrs. Fred (Viola) Crum of Elgin are also survivors. Preceding Mr. Boulanger in death were his parents, four children, two brothers and two sisters. Mr. Boulanger was a member of Fortitude Lodge, No. 107, A.F. and A.M. He was believed to have been the only member of the Osage tribe to have platted a town. He laid out the town of Boulanger in Oklahoma, near Elgin, Ks. and named it for his family.
