Akers CLOVIS, N.M. - Williams L. Akers, 89, died Wednesday, July 1, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Steed-Todd Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Thomas P. Jones, officiating. Burial will be in Lawn Haven Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Akers was born in Perry, Okla., and farmed in Pleasant Hill for many years. In 1942, he was employed as an airplane mechanic for the Civil Service. He later was a carpenter in California then returned to Clovis in 1951 where he was a carpenter in the Civil Service. He worked and lived in Missouri and El Paso. After his retirement in 1974, Mr. Akers returned to Clovis. He was a member of Central Christian Church, Good Sams and Senior Citizens where he served on the board of directors. He also was a member of Square Dance Club and National Association of Retired Civil Service Association. He married Edith Sagely in 1931 at Clovis. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ida Mae Martin.
