'Ed' was born in Oklahoma City in 1925, and grew up in Three Sands, Oklahoma where he was raised by his Uncle Charles McElmurry before joining the United States Navy in 1943. While serving in the Navy Ed was a gunner flying on the Bull of the Woods 'Bulldog' in the Victor Dog Squadron led by Commander Robert Stroh, Jr.. Ed received the Presidential Citation and Theater Ribbons for his service to his country. After the Navy Ed met and married the love of his life Leta Gracy Kenner. Ed is preceded in death by Leta. They were married for forty-five years. Ed worked in the Oil and Gas Industry for ten years. Ed and Leta owned and operated the Rustic Inn Restaurants in Oklahoma City for over thirty years. Ed and Leta made numerous friends living in Oklahoma City, and especially the high school lads from Northwest Classen, and many fishing buddies. His dearest friends of all were Leroy and Dora Faye Harris from Ponca City. Leroy Harris remained Ed's best friend all of his life. Ed was embraced by all who met him but especially by the Kenner family when he met Leta. All of the Kenner 'Kids', as he liked to call them, both in California and Oklahoma remained forever close to his heart. Ed got his second big family when his son Charles Lynn Helm married Maggie Pitt. The Pitt family too, embraced Ed and loved him very much. Ed leaves behind his family and friends including, Charles, Maggie, Gracy and Dillon Helm, Harlena, Bobby, Gayla and Chris Jordon, Michael, Linda, Adam and Heather DeCamp. The Keener 'Kids' in California and Oklahoma, The Pitt Family in Oklahoma City, especially Paddy, Jack, Janie and Kathy. Leroy Harris and family and friends in Ponca City, Oklahoma. The family would like to thank all of our friends who helped care for Ed, especially Traci Brannon, The Fountains at Canterbury, Trinity Gardens, Deaconess Hospital and Southwest Medical Center. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 10, 2002 at the IOOF Cemetery in Tonkawa, OK.
