The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. http://www.usgwarchives.net/ *********************************************************************** Obit for John Quincy Holmes John Quincy Holmes Garber - Services for John Quincy Holmes, 78, who died Monday in an Enid hospital following a period of ill health, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the First Christian Church. The Rev. Steve Birdwell will officiate and burial will be in the Union Cemetery at Billings. The Anderson Funeral Home of Garber is in charge of arrangements. Holmes was born near Billings Sept. 24, 1896, and attended Billings School, later the University of Oklahoma. He was a veteran of World War I. Holmes was a member of the Garber Christian Church, a 50-year member of the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge at Billings. On May 15, 1920, he and Thelma S. Breinholt were married at Billings. They lived in Billings where he operated a grocery store until 1943 when they moved to Marshall where he was employed by Champlin Oil Co. In 1950 they moved to Enid and six years later to Garber. Survivors include his wife Thelma of the home, three daughters, Mrs. Anabel Askey, Houston, Tex., Mrs. Martin (Ellen) Kingery, Billings, and Mrs. Linda Bray of Del City, 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Mary Danford of Billings. He was predeceased by his only son Robert G. Holmes in 1973.
