Jack Brown officiating. Mrs. Mensik, 78, of Prospect, died Tuesday (Feb. 19, 2002) at her home. Memorial contributions may be made to The Nature Conservancy, 4245 N. Fairfax Drive, Suite 100, Arlington, VA 22203-1606 or the American Cancer Society P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501. She was born on July 31, 1923, in Okemah, Okla., a daughter of Guy and Mildred Board. On Dec. 22, 1948, in Boise City, Okla., she married Bohumil (Bon) Mensik who died in January 1984. They moved to Prospect in 1979. Mrs. Mensik attended school in Boise City, Okla., and was a member of the 1939-40 state championhip women's high school basketball team. She attended college at Panhandle A&M from 1940 to 1942. She received her B.A. in English in 1945 from the University of Oklahoma. She worked for the F.B.I. in Washington, D.C., from July 1942 to September 1943. She worked at the Czechoslovak Embassy from January 1946 until March 1948. From 1949 to 1953 she worked at the Fort Ord Army Hospital. She left to begin raising her children. In 1968 she worked as a teacher's assistant at Forest Grove Elementary School and retired in 1979. Survivors include a son, Greg, Willows, Calif.; two daughters, Karen Mensik-King, Prospect, and Deborah Lucas, of Gasquet, Calif.; a sister, Betty Griffin, Tallahassee, Fla.; and three grandchildren.
