Kezer’s Services Held Funeral services for James D. (Jim) Kezer, 73, were held in the Parks Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday at 2 p.m. Rev. Elmer Price officiated with Rev. Joe Howard and Rev. Ted Bulla assisting. Mr. Kezer died January 4 after suffering a heart attack. He was born at Shawnee, Oklahoma on July 23, 1895. Mr. Kezer was one of the pioneer settlers in Okfuskee County, having come to Okemah in 1902, and he had lived here since that time. He retired as a post office employee in 1960 with 38 years service. He had served as a rural mail carrier, city route carrier and as a clerk in the post office. Mr. Kezer had been active in Boy Scout work for more than 40 years, and he had remained interested in the scouting program until the time of his death. He had served in various offices in the Boy Scout organization as well as serving as a Scoutmaster for many years. He had also worked with the Girl Scouts. Mr. Kezer was a 40-year member of the Calvary Baptist Church, and a member of the Masonic Lodge. He received the Okemah Jaycees “Man of the Year” award in 1967 in recognition of his many years of service to the community. He married Miss Jeannetta Laura Brook at Vinita, Oklahoma, on June 6, 1918. Mr. Kezer is survived by his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Martha Gene Merideth, Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Mrs. Margaret Rose and Mrs. Judy Williams both of Midwest City, Oklahoma; two sons, Glenn Kezer, New York City and Claude Kezer, Albuquerque, New Mexico; two sisters, Miss Hattie Kezer and Mrs. Josephine Miles, both of Okemah; one brother, Osman kezer, Altus, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Interment was in Highland Cemetery under the direction of the Parks Funeral Home. Active Pallbearers were Phillip Landers, Raymond Overall, Harry Scoufos Jr., Philip Standley, John L. Stone and Dr. Rhame Wood. Honorary pallbearers were active and retired employees of the Okemah post office.
