She received her early education in Boley, Oklahoma. She accepted Christ in her life an early age. Rebecca Marzett met and was joined in holy wedlock to Isaac F. Sykes, Sr. To this union were born six children. The family moved to Fresno, California in 1939, where she was united with Carter Memorial A.M.E. Church. Mother Sykes served as a member of the Stewardess Board, the Louise Woodson Missionary Society, and was Chaplin of Thelma Scott Chapter No. 73 of the Eastern Stars. Mother Sykes was a loving member, a model member, but she as gone to her reward. She will be greatly missed by her family, the church and all who knew her, but this is God’s way. His will must be done and she has left a living example of loving service. Mother Sykes leaves to cherish her memory: Her husband - Rev. Isaac Sykes, Sr; Four sons - Isaac F. Sykes, Jr. of San Francisco, California, Donald Sykes of Fresno, Ray Sykes of Fresno and Robert Sykes of Fresno. Two daughters - Adell Shaw of Fresno and Jewell Moss of Fresno. Three brothers - Millard Marzett of Fresno, Bennie Marett and June Marzett, Jr. both of Boley, Oklahoma. Six sisters - Eular Ramsey of San Bernardino, California, Alice Bell of San Francisco, California, Inez Bowens of Fresno, California, Euphene Tomlin of Boley, Oklahoma, Dorsey M. Higgs of Spencer, Oklahoma, and Clara B. Sykes of Fresno, California. Fourteen Grandchildren, Ten Great Grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. She fought the fight, she kept the faith, and now she has gone home to God. Sleep on Mother Sykes. Services: Carter Memorial A.M.E.
