Mrs. Atkinson died Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, in Sulphur. ========= Lawton Constitution 25 Nov 2003 Viva Elizabeth Granger Atkinson SULPHUR, La. — Funeral for former Lawton resident Viva Elizabeth Granger Atkinson, 84, Sulphur, La., will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist East Church with Doug Passmore, pastor, officiating. Mrs. Atkinson died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery under direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home. She was born Jan. 21, 1919, in Oklahoma City to Robert and Laura Burges Granger, but spent all of her childhood in Lawton. She married James W. Atkinson in August 1938 at Walters and became a military wife. They traveled, and lived in Japan twice, in Germany, and throughout the southern and western United States. She moved back to Lawton in 1962 where she lived until 1993, when she moved to Louisiana. She was a Girl Scout leader several times and volunteered 15 years at the Greiner School for the Handicapped in Lawton. She was in the Sullivan Village Elementary School PTA, and was a member and a Sunday school teacher at First Baptist East for many years. She was a member of Army Gold Star Wives. She was a former member of Northside Baptist Church. Survivors include three daughters and their husbands: Barbara Ann and Lance Reese, Ringgold, Ga.; Beverly Eve and Bob Haden, Sulphur, La.; and Kathy Elizabeth and Rich Wheeler, Gainesville, Fla.; six grandchildren and their spouses: Robert Brian Haden, James Russell Haden and Rajani Kapu, all of Dallas, Texas; Shanda Lashel Reese Morton and Brian Morton, Ringgold, Ga.; Colin Atkinson Wheeler, Laurel Elizabeth Wheeler and Marissa Kathryn Wheeler, all of Gainesville, Fla.; and a great-grandchild, Bryn Madeline Haden. She was preceded in death by her husband, retired Chief Warrant Officer James Walter Atkinson; and a great-grandson Cason Cooper Haden.
