All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.html ========================================================================== ::Matthews FH--OKC OK Allsup, Lucille "Mom Duncan" Lucille 'Mom Duncan' Allsup, Edmond, OK was born January 10, 1914, to James and Elsie Gowder, Tecumseh, Oklahoma. She married William M. Duncan in 1929. They operated a grocery at the Wye, south of Tecumseh, for several years before moving to Oklahoma City and eventually to Edmond in 1945 to work in the oil field. Lucille worked for the G&W grocery in downtown Edmond. In 1963, Lucille and her husband moved to the Baptist Student Center at UCO where she was the Hostess and was known as 'Mom Duncan' to the students. She continued in that position after his death in 1971 and served a total of 11 years. The Duncans were both active members of First Baptist Church of Edmond where Lucille taught Sunday School in the Children's Department. In 1974, Lucille married Dudley Allsup, a retired postal worker and active Minister of Music in several Baptist churches in this area until his death in 1994. She was active in ministry in those churches also. Lucille, an active member of The First Baptist Church of Oklahoma City, loved to entertain her Pastor and visiting preachers by feeding them at her famous table with produce from her garden. She is well known for her hospitality. She was also active in NARFE, and always pursued her lifelong passions of gardening and fishing. Lucille is survived by her children, Winona Marks (Freddie) of Lawrence, KS, Jacquita Duncan, Ralph Duncan and Lunola Allsup Burns (John), all of Edmond; one sister, Christine Kahoe of Norman, seven grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. LaJuanda Speegle and Randy Ceynar, both of Edmond have also been as children to her. One of six siblings, Lucille leaves two generations of nephews and nieces who will remember family reunions she hosted with plenty of food and music. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 23, 2005, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Matthews Funeral Home, 601 S. Kelly in Edmond. Following a family graveside service, the Memorial service will be Wednesday, August 24, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of First Baptist Church of Oklahoma City, 11th and Robinson. Dr. Tom Ogburn, Lucille's Pastor and friend will conduct the service. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church, Oklahoma City, Music Ministry or Wickline United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
