Allen, Jr., 92, of Norman, Oklahoma, died peacefully Thursday, September 15, 2005, in Norman, Oklahoma. A private committal will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, September 21, 2005, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, September 21, at First Christian Church in Norman with Reverend David Spain and Reverend Katherine Bennett officiating. Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, Oklahoma. John was born June 13,1913, in St. Joseph, Missouri. His parents, John C. And Mamie Allen, brought their infant son to Oklahoma in 1913. He attended school in Oklahoma City, graduating from Classen High School, and going on to graduate from the University of Oklahoma in 1935, majoring in business administration. He was a member of ATO fraternity and the Roughnecks. John met and married his cherished wife, Margaret Spielman, in 1935. He spent his professional life in retailing, starting at John A. Brown Co, moving on to Brown Duncan, and later in Dallas, TX, at Linz Department stores where he was executive vice president until his retirement. He and Margaret were active members of East Dallas Christian Church in Dallas. Both served as teachers, and John served as Deacon, Elder, Chairman of the General Board, and President of the congregation, and other leadership positions. He also served as Vice Chairman of the Circle 10 Boy Scouts. During his years in Dallas he remained an active and enthusiastic OU fan, serving as President of the OU Club of Dallas in 1958. John and Margaret retired to Norman in 1980, becoming active members of First Christian Church, and assuming leadership roles there. They devoted their energies to such activities as delivering Meals on Wheels for fourteen years. John was preceded in death by his parents, his younger brother, George, and his beloved Margaret, who died in 1999. He is survived by his son, John C. Allen III and his wife, Edie, his daughter, Gloria Allen Rogers and her husband, Melvin, their daughters, Heather Rogers Tachereau, her husband, Troy, and their daughters, Anya and Taryn, and Camille Rogers Moes, her husband, Tim, and their children, Catie, Danielle, Steven, and Anthony and by his niece, Donna Spielman and sister-in-law, Doris Spielman.
