Atkins, 82, a life long resident of Oklahoma City peacefully died on August 18, 2003 at Alterra Clare Bridge North. He graduated from Central High School and was inducted into the US Army in 1942. He served honorably with the rank of Sergeant until Christmas Eve, 1945. He participated in the Battles of Bismark Archipelago, New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. Upon discharge he attended Oklahoma City University. Nova was Manager of the Grant and Contracts Accounting Department for the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center until retirement in 1973 and then served in the same capacity with the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, finally retiring in 1983. He was a loving and devoted member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church where he served on the Administrative Board and as a greeter and usher. He is survived by his sister Jo Ellen Atkins of Oklahoma City. Many will miss his farewell: 'You are in my thoughts and prayers.' Nova was Christlike. Services to be held 10:00 A.M. Thursday, August 21, 2003 at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, with interment to follow at Rose Hill Abbey Mausoleum.
