She was born February 19, 1904 in Duncan, Oklahoma, to the late Andrew J. Peck and Polly Ann Brown Peck who came to Oklahoma in a covered wagon during the Oklahoma Land run. Prebble gave her heart to the Lord at the Nazarene Church in Duncan that was organized in the home of her parents. Prebble completed her elementary years in the Duncan Schools and came to Bethany to complete High School at the Academy of Oklahoma Holiness College, now Southern Nazarene University (SNU). After completing High School she enrolled in Bethany Peniel College where she was graduated with the class of 1923 with a major in piano. Prebble played forward on the first SNU women's basketball team. Her uniform was a midi-blouse and pleated, black satin bloomers that looked like a skirt. Prebble said 'if you fell down it covered everything.' While attending school in Bethany she met and married Herman E. Beaver. Their wedding on June 2, 1923 was featured in the first Bethany newspaper, the Bethany Messenger, now The Tribune. They had two daughters, Wanda Joy Beaver and Doris Darlene Beaver. Herman and Prebble celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 1988. Prebble taught piano students privately for ten years. The public schools in Oklahoma did not offer kindergarten in 1940 so Prebble opened a private kindergarten in her home where she taught for 30 years. Prebble was a member of Bethany First Church of the Nazarene where she served as a church greeter for more than 40 years. She also served as the hostess for receptions and church functions and as social chairman for her Sunday School Class. She was a loyal alumnus of SNU and a member and hostess of the Bench Warmer Booster Club. She and her husband, Herman, received the Alumni Heritage Award from SNU in 1987. They were also selected to receive the Most Useful Citizen Award by the Bethany Chamber of Commerce in 1985. Prebble was a charter member of the Bethany Historical Society and worked on many community projects and was active in the PTA for the Bethany Public Schools for 16 years. She loved to wear hats and collected them as a hobby. Entertaining was a special love and she entertained many but especially loved the SNU students. She loved her God, her Church, her family and many friends. She was proud of the Bethany community, watching it grow for 84 years. Prebble was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, nine brothers and sisters, and daughter, Doris Beaver Schumann. She is survived by her daughter, Joy Beaver and her husband, Don Beaver, granddaughter Gina McGarry and husband Mike McGarry and their children Erin and Matthew, granddaughter Jill Beaver and her children Eileen and Mei, Richard Schumann, husband of Doris Beaver Schumann (deceased), and a host of loving nieces, nephews and friends. The funeral service for Prebble will be held at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene on Friday, May 9, at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be at the Bethany cemetery. The family would like to express thanks for the loving care given at The Lakes Health Care Center. Memorials may be made to the Herman and Prebble Beaver Memorial Scholarship Fund at Southern Nazarene University.
