All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== ::Memorial Park Cemetery--OKC OK Best, Don Anthony Don Anthony Best, age 65, passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2003, surrounded and comforted by his loving family. Born in Oklahoma City on October 2, 1937, to L.T. Best, Jr. and Cecilia Seck Best, he attended Catholic High School scoring the first touchdown in school history. He was awarded football and baseball scholarships to Oklahoma A&M. Don, owner of Best Roofing Systems, was nationally known as an expert roof consultant with clients such as Will Rogers World Airport. Notable awards include the Lifetime Service from the Spray Polyurethane Foam Association and Workhorse of the Year from the Society of Plastic Industries. A member of the Roofing Industry Committee on Weather Issues, Don conducted seminars for the Roof Consultants Institute. An inventor, Don held a US Patent for a system called Metal-Gard, and created Best Bass Baits. This adored patriarch loved hunting and fishing with his family on Lake Tenkiller. Memories of deer camp, minnows, worms, and stink bait are held dear. At Christmas, he donned a Santa suit delighting family children with a deep belly laugh and gifts. He is survived by his cherished wife, Martha Ann McCulloch Best, and his brother, David Best, of Oklahoma City. Also surviving are eight children, Kathleen Jennings, Oklahoma City; Kevin Best, Broken Arrow; Kelley Keys, Evergreen, CO; Karin Van De Steeg, Oklahoma City; Kathy Brown, Los Animas, CO; Michael Miles, Durant; Tony Miles, Oklahoma City; Steven Miles, Denver, CO; seventeen grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, March 5, at the Smith & Kernke Chapel, 14624 N. May Ave. with David Rivers officiating. Pallbearers are Tony Miles, Michael Miles, Tyson Eckroat, Michael Keys, John Best, and K.D. Lackey. Honorary pallbearers are Mike Keys, Tucker McHugh, and Erik Van De Steeg Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family thanks Dr. Keeffer and the fourth floor Mercy Hospital, and a special thanks to Dr. Diane Gasbarra for her compassionate care.
