All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Daily Oklahoman 1 Aug 2002 Bassett, Betty Jean (Couts) Betty Jean (Couts) Bassett went to be with the Lord on July 30, 2002. She passed away at home after a courageous battle with cancer. Betty was born August 18, 1930 to Gene and Lillie Couts in OK. She was a graduate of Capitol Hill High School and married her H.S. sweetheart, Bob Bassett on July 27, 1950. They had one daughter, Linda & two sons, Butch & Mike. Betty was a Sunday School teacher in the children's dept. for 19½ years, a leader for Bible Study Fellowship for many years & belonged to a trio, the Cheeriaires for 16 years. She grew up in Capitol Hill and was a member of South Lee United Methodist Church, and is an active member of Council Road Baptist Church. Betty worked by her husband's side in their business, Bassett Mechanical Contractors, a secretary for Bill Merritt Funeral Homes, and was currently a secretary for Harry Deupree & Associates and Lindsey Brock Office. She was preceded by her husband Bob on Sept. 11, 1993 and her parents, Gene & Lillie Couts. Betty is survived by her son Butch and daughter-in-law Debi, OKC; daughter, Linda and son-in-law Derel, Mustang; and son Mike, OKC; 8 grandchildren, Breana, Chalyn & Chanda Bassett, Robbie, Ryan, Scott, Tiffany & Lacy Cornelius & 2 great granddaughters, Camryn & Grace Corneluis. She is also survived by brother, Bill Couts and sister-in-law Olive, Mustang, and brother, Dewayne, OKC. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and many family members. Special thanks to Hospice of OK, her Sunday School Class and all the friends and family for the wonderful love and care during her ill- ness. Services will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, Aug. 2nd at Council Road Baptist Church.
