All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Blakley, Olevia Daves Olevia Daves Blakley was born on May 27, 1905, near Indianapolis, OK, to William T. and Mary Jane Tennessee 'Tennie' Pitts Daves. On April 20, 1928 she was united in marriage with Rolla T. Blakley. To this union one son, Lawrence Daves Blakely was born. Both preceded her in death, Rolla in 1962 and Lawrence in 1998. Olevia grew up on a farm near Indianapolis, OK, and finished grade school there. In 1924, she graduated from Custer High School, then took the exam to be certified as a teacher. She taught 19 years in one and two-room schools in Custer County, 3 years in Dewey and Roger Mills Counties, and 1 year each in Butler and Arapaho. She received her Bachelor's degree from Southwestern College in 1952. The end of the one room schools came and Olevia and Rolla joined Lawrence in Oklahoma City where she taught 14 years, retiring in 1969. Olevia was a member of Arapaho Methodist Church. In 1969 she transferred her membership to Pennsylvania Avenue United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City. In addition to her husband and son, Olevia was preceded in death by her parents and five sisters. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Ollie Conley Blakely, her nephews and nieces, Merle Thurman, Marjorie Bauman Wright, R.H. Bauman, Roland Nickels and Laura Nell Blakely Tolle. Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2003 at Mt. Hope Cemetery. GUARDIAN WEST 41 & N.
