All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm +========================================================================+ Los Angeles Times 17 December 2003 THOMAS HENRY BOLAND Died Thursday, December 11th, at home in Murietta. Tom was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on March 23, 1921. His family moved to Los Angeles in 1932. He graduated from Loyola High, class of 1939. He played football at Santa Clara University. He then ventured north to Alaska, worked in the gold mines and attended University of Alaska. He loved the great outdoors, fishing, hunting and golf. Tom served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1941 to 1946, as a Gunners Mate First Class. While aboard the USS Belfast PF35 on convoy duty to Leyte Gulf in the Philippines, he was wounded. During World War II, Tom married Rita MacDonald and raised their family in Hancock Park. He was the owner of National Auto Glass and later sold real estate in Newport Beach. Tom and Rita were happily married for 61 years. They moved to Murrieta in 1992. He was a member of St. Martha's Catholic Parish in Murrieta. Tom will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, great sportsman and a World War II hero who loved his country. The family is forever thankful to the Hospice of the Valleys for the loving support and respectful care given to Tom at home while he suffered from Parkinsons. His memory will be cherished by his family and many friends. Tom is survived by his loving wife Rita; and will be deeply missed by his daughter Diane Boland Carpenter and her husband Mike Carpenter of Pacific Palisades; by his son David Boland and his wife Trish Boland of Corona; his five grandchildren: Bridget Carpenter; Brennan Carpenter and his wife AnneMarie Carpenter; Cathleen Carpenter; Dane Boland; and Kate Boland; and his great grandson, Ryan Thomas Carpenter. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, December 19th, at 11:00 AM, St. Martha's Catholic Church, 37200 Whitewood Road, Murrieta, CA 92563.
