She joins her husband of almost 50 years, Robert Eugene Brooks, 3 months after his passing, and their daughter, Sheila Ruth Brooks. Born January 29th, 1930 in San Antonio, Texas, Ruth was the sole child of Reverend Wade Logan Andrews and Vera Electra Hawkins Andrews. After growing up in San Antonio, she attended the Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. After earning her degree as a Registered Nurse, she returned to her hometown and began work as a psychiatric nurse. Ruth soon met and fell in love with a dashing young Air Force Medic named Robert 'Gene' Brooks, and later accepted his marriage proposal. Ruth temporarily left nursing in order to devote herself to providing a stable and nurturing home for their children. The Brooks family moved to Oklahoma City in the early '60s, and it was during this period that Ruth became heavily involved with the Girl Scouts. After many years of volunteer work at the troop and council levels, she later became a staff member at the Red Lands Council of Girl Scouts where she served for many years supervising the council's camps. Ruth also was an avid Band Booster at Northeast High School, and devoted innumerable hours to fund raising, chaperoning Viking Marching Band trips, and working the concession stand during football games. She was also an active member in as many as 3 different Parent-Teacher Associations. Ruth was well known for her abilities as a cook, loved music and animals, and was an avid fan of Oklahoma Sooner and Dallas Cowboy football. Ruth later returned to psychiatric nursing until she was beset by a long series of devastating illnesses. She bore her illness with rare good grace, stoicism and toughness, but ultimately succumbed after losing her beloved husband. Ruth is survived by her son, Commander Kevin Eugene Brooks, MD MPH, United States Navy, his wife Jacquelyn, and their sons Patrick and Sean and her daughter, Lori Vanessa Brooks Davis, her husband Greg, and their children Jeremy and Paige.
