Gibson OK The Grove Sun Daily John Russell Barksdale 1919-2005 GROVE, Okla. - John Russell Barksdale, 86, of Grove, Okla., died Sept. 30, 2005 at Integris Grove General Hospital. The son of John R. and Ethel Polk Barksdale, he was born May 7, 1919 in Okmulgee, Okla. Mr. Barksdale was a graduate of Okmulgee High School in 1937 and then attended Okmulgee Junior College. He was a veteran of WW II and the Korean Conflict serving in the United States Air Force. He was united in marriage to Betty V. Milam Aug. 1, 1942 in Denver, Colo. Mr. Barksdale was employed as a Photo Instructor at the Lowry Air Force Base, Denver, Colo. until his retirement in 1973. Mr. and Mrs. Barksdale moved to Grove in 1973. Mr. Barksdale was a member of the First Baptist Church in Grove, Okla. Survivors include his wife Betty of the home, two daughters, Frieda Reed of Grove, Okla. and Christine Fagerstone of Colleyville, Texas. Two sons, Steven Barksdale and Court Barksdale of Tulsa, Okla. There are seven grandchildren. Three sisters, Jewell Fern of Tampa, Fla., Louise Graver of Bella Vista, Ark. and Rosalie Hicks of Ocala, Fla. A brother, Ronald Barksdale of Tampa, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Basil. Funeral services will be Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2005, 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Grove, Okla. with Pastor James Wilder and Dr. Russell Barksdale officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at 2 p.m. at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery, Ft. Gibson, Okla.
