All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::West Side District Cemetery--Taft CA Vernon Everett "Vern" Barker 1929 - 2005 Vernon Everett Barker (Vern) Services: Thurs., Dec. 22, 2005 Funeral services will be held in the West Side District Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel on Thursday, December 22, 2005, at 1:00 p.m. for longtime Taft resident, Vernon Everett Vern Barker, 76. Mr. Barker was born on October 6, 1929 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and passed away in Bakersfield on December 19, 2005. He served his country in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Barker was employed as a mechanic for 10 years for C.W.O.D. and was then employed at Chevron before retiring in 1986. He was a huge Taft Cougar fan and was a member of the Booster Club. Mr. Barker even enjoyed watching them practice. He was an avid reader and enjoyed going to the library just to read. Mr. Barker was interested in politics and watched them very closely. Once he retired he loved to travel and vacation. Mr. Barker was preceded in death by his parents, Rex and Mae Barker; his sisters, Ruby Parks and Wanda Lucas and by his brother, Roy Barker. His survivors include his wife, Mary Barker of Taft; his daughters, Sherry Erlewine and her husband, David of Bakersfield and Julianne Knowles of Bakersfield; his grandchildren, Aaron Erlewine and his wife, Brenda, Krystal Carter and her husband, Jimmy and Jeffrey Erlewine, all of Bakersfield; his great-grandchildren, Katelin Erlewine, Troy Carter and Patrick Carter; his sister, Fern Carroll of Bakersfield and his many nieces and nephews. Those who wish to pay their respects may do so on Wednesday from 3-8:30 p.m. and again on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the Erickson & Brown Funeral Home.
