"Popcorn" FLETCHER - Funeral for retired Sgt. 1st Class Alton H. "Popcorn" Bridges, 68, Fletcher, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Fletcher First United Methodist Church with retired Chaplain Elton Curnutt and the Rev. Doyle Sharp, pastor, officiating. Sgt. Bridges died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003. Burial will military honors will be at Fletcher Cemetery under direction of Robbins Funeral Home, Fletcher. He was born May 30, 1934, in Belfast, Maine, to Adrian and Minnie Bridges. He graduated from Crosby High School, Belfast. He served in the Korean War in 1951- 1953. He was stationed at Fort Sill Board No. 1 CONARC, when he married Adonna Rieck at Fletcher United Methodist Church in 1955. He served six years in Europe, a second tour in Korea, and a tour during the Tet Offensive in Vietnam. He retired from the military in 1972. He served 20 more years in Civil Service with more than 30 years in Colorado Springs, Colo. He was a member of the American Legion, Fletcher Lions Club, Disabled American Veterans, and Fletcher United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law: Stanley Jay and Carla Bridges, Stillwater; and Edward and Wendy Bridges, Moore; two brothers: Malcom Bridges, Winterport, Maine; and Glenwood Bridges, Crystal Hills, Fla.; and three grandchildren: Joshua, Blaine, and Cara Bridges. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice, or to First United Methodist Church, 307 Martin, Fletcher, 73541.
