Best Jerry Dale Best, 70, of Gridley died Jan. 21, 2007, at Enloe Medical Center in Chico. Born in Oklahoma City, Okla., he was a longtime Mid-Valley resident. He was a professional bull rider. He was a member of Sons in Retirement in Marysville and the Mallard Lake Golf Club in Yuba City. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, stationed overseas. Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Ladine Best of Gridley; two sons, Dean Marler of Yuba City and Anthony Best of Southern California; three daughters, Gaye Knox of Gridley, Geri Ellen Gonzalez of Southern California and Tami Jean Best of Atwater; a brother, Anthony Best of Lake Elsinore; two sisters, Mary John Tozier of Durham and Jimmie McNally of Oroville; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Scott Marler, and a grandson. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society left in care of Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel in Gridley. Services: A graveside service is scheduled at 2 p.m. Thursday at Gridley-Biggs Cemetery, 2023 Highway 99, Gridley. Pastor Rick Cunningham of the First Baptist Church in Gridley will officiate.
