Many tears were shed by his three daughters, caregivers, and hospice nurses for the loss of a wonderful and gentle-hearted man. Now he is whole in mind and body and will not suffer any longer. We know he is dancing joyfully with Betsey, his wife, who preceded him in death on Dec. 5, 2005. Earl was born in Oklahoma City, Okla., the youngest of three boys. He graduated from the University of Illinois with an electrical engineering degree and had his own engineering company, E.S. Constant Co., until his retirement at age 70. At university he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He was married for four years after college until his wife's death by a heart attack. He later married Betsey in Buffalo, N.Y., and they were married for 64 years. Their marriage was a true love match and they had three daughters, April Wallace, Gaila Couch and Tamas Baker. He leaves seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Earl had many interests and was active with Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church, Home Orchard Society, genealogy, ASHRAE (Engineering Society), gardening and carpentry. He traveled the world with Betsey and also experienced many elder hostel retreats. His philosophy of life was always to look ahead with faith and calm determination. All those who knew him will miss his caring love and support and we will miss his wonderful smile. The family thanks River Valley Landing for their outstanding care and love, and Odyssey Hospice for their support and expertise. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 4, in Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church in Portland. Remembrances to Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church, Portland.
