Services: 2:00 PM Saturday, April 26, 2003 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel, with Rev. Charles Lowry, pastor of the Fellowship Baptist Church, officiating. BURIAL: Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Born November 14, 1945 in Illinois. Her family lived for a number of years in Albuquerque, New Mexico where her father was a passenger agent for Santa Fe Railroad. The family later moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where she met and married G. W. 'Gary' Carter, Jr., on May 9, 1969. She and Gary moved to Pampa in December of that year. She worked for many years with Alco Stores in what started out as a 'temporary job,' and ended 15 years later when the store closed in Pampa. She was a member of the Quilting Guild of Pampa for a number of years. She spent many hours quilting and sewing clothes for her grandchildren, family, and friends. She was a very active gardener and enjoyed growing her vegetables every year. She also liked to visit the elderly of friends and helped them in their activities. She recently liked to participate in water aerobics at the Pampa Youth Center where she acted as a stand-in leader. She was a loving wife and grandmother, and was well known and loved by many as someone who had a kind heart, was honest in her dealings with others, and never had a cross word for anyone. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alma Charlotte and Bain Fisher. SURVIVORS: husband: Gardner 'Gary' Carter of the home; 2 daughters; Brenda Shaw of Brownfield, and Laura Carter of Chandler, TX; 2 sisters: Sharlene Beech of Russellville, Arkansas and Karen Harrison of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, 4 grandchildren, 3 nieces, 1 nephew, 2 great nieces, and several cousins.
