Crowell DALLAS - Charles E. Crowell, 78, died Sunday, May 3, 1998. Private graveside services were May 11 at Sparkman-Hillcrest Cemetery. Mr. Crowell graduated from West Texas State Teachers College in 1941. He married Jean Howze in 1941. He served in the Army infantry during World War II. He served most of the time with the 96th Division in the battle for Okinawa, where he was awarded the Bronze Star. He later worked with the American Legion Post in Hereford and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Masonic Lodge. He also was a member of Gaston Oaks Baptist Church in Dallas. Mr. Crowell worked many years in the field of right-of-way acquisition for Coates Field Service of Oklahoma City and also for several government agencies. He was preceded in death by a son, Curtis Crowell. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Craig Crowell and Cliff Crowell, both of Van Buren, Ark.; three sisters, Ola Faye Hendrickson of Canyon, Vergie Statt of Tucumcari, N.M., and Ina Cooke of Beaumont; and several grandchildren.
