Bill passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Monday, May 12, 2003 at Bakersfield Heart Hospital. Bill had been a resident of Bakersfield for the past 12 years, and became known as Mr. HUD Homes with his outstanding service to his clients at Watson Realty. He previously worked at Century 21 Crosstown Real Estate, and with his sister in Curtis Catering. More important in his life were his children, family, and friends. Bill loved his children dearly and devoted a great deal of his time to their upbringing and activities, especially in the last several years. He was very proud of all their achievements. He was born at Oklahoma City, OK on November 6, 1947 to Martha Jane (Hawthorne) Carlson and Robert Henry Carlson. The family moved to Sac County, Iowa and operated farming and restaurant businesses there, both in which Bill was very active. Their Carlson House Restaurant in Sac City, Iowa was known far and wide for its Victorian ambiance and top-rate steaks. Bill graduated with a degree in Restaurant Management from Iowa State University at Ames, IA. Three of his children were born in Australia, where Bill worked for Laventhol and Horwath, a global restaurant and food services consulting company. He loved snow skiing and traveled to Europe several times to ski the Italian Alps. He and his son Robert and his daughter Elizabeth also enjoyed rebuilding and restoring vintage automobiles in their spare time. Bill was preceded in death by both of his parents. He is survived by his four children: Martha Jane (Carlson) Davis and her husband, Eric of Tucson, AZ; Robert Anton DeForest Carlson, 17, and Elizabeth Whitney Jane Carlson, 14, both of Bakersfield; and Christopher William Wayne Carlson, 16, of Phoenix, AZ; his sister, Marilyn Curtis and her husband Bruce of Castle Rock, CO; their children, Robert and Holly; and his brother, John Carlson and his wife Mary, of Henderson, NV.
