Canion, 91, a veteran of World War II, passed away on May 30, 2007. He was born on December 23, 1915 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He joined the Air Force in the early 1940's. He became a B17 pilot on his second mission over Germany, he was shot down and was in the POW Camp Stalag Luft 1 for one year. Bill came home and became a heavy equipment operator. He joined the Operator Engineers Union Local 3, where he was a member in good standing for over 50 years. Playing golf was his passion, he continued to play up to the week before his death. He always enjoyed a challenging game of golf with his buddies. He was an active member of the American Ex-POWs Aqua Fria Chapter. He was preceded in death by his first wife Nancy whom he was married to for 51 years. He is survived by his daughter J.J. Jent of California, grandson Billy (Stacy) Jent, 2 great-grandchildren Daniel Hutton and Jack Jent. He is survived by his second wife Shirley Muskan Canion and her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Bill will be missed by those whose lives he had touched over the years. A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd. Phoenix, Arizona. In lieu of flowers the family requests any donations be made in Bill's name to The American Ex-POWs Aqua Fria Chapter. Arrangements entrusted to Green Acres Glendale Mortuary.
