Dr. Mary Dean Brown Conklin was a 1942 Hammon graduate. After graduating from Hammon High School, she attended Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. Mary Dean enlisted in the U.S. Navy on November 17, 1943 where she served as a nurse for service personel returning from the Pacific theater of war. She was discharged on January 6, 1946. Mary Dean played first base for the Marines softball team and played on the basketball team. She gained notoriety as a high scorer with one game of 56 points. Mary Dean did nursing and other jobs and entered chriopratic college in California and graded as a licensed Doctor of Chiropractic in 1960. Dr. Conklin returned to Oklahoma City and owned her own clinic for several years. She was a courageous lady and had a smile and a kind word for everyone.
