"Dick" Richard M. "Dick" Davis, a highly respected geophysicist, died February 3, 2003 in Deaconess Hospital, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 94, after a long & successful career in oil exploration which included awards & patents for his seismograph recording innovations. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Texas where he met his wife, Bess Calhoun Davis, the love of his life, also a University of Texas graduate in 1929. They were married in Fort Stockton, Texas, May 31, 1930, a wonderful marriage of 67 years ended only by Bess" death on October 19, 1997. Dick always called his marriage to Bess his most enjoyable success. Together they moved to 55 towns, meeting lifelong & treasured friends who were also in the oil business with Carter Oil, Humble/Exxon, Mid-America Minerals & Calvert Exploration, returning to Oklahoma City in 1947. Dick is a past President & Emeritus Member of the Geophysical Society. He & Bess were lifetime members of Wesley Methodist Church, where Dick was the president of the Wesleyan Class several times. Dick was born March 22, 1908 in Austin, Texas to Hardeman Davis & Flora McDonald Davis, the eldest of the family which included his brother, Hugh King Davis, & sister, Maxine McCollum, all of whom preceded him in death. Bess & Dick are survived by their daughter, Nan Graham, their son, Rick Davis & his wife, Debbie, grandsons & granddaughters, Casi & Billi, Todd Graham & his wife, Kathleen, Mark Graham & his wife, Michelle, Frank Davis & his wife, Leah, great grandchildren, Teresa, Henry & Dillon, & the most special nieces & nephews. Services: 9:00 a.m, on Monday, February 10 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1401 NW 25th, Oklahoma City, OK 73106. Visitation at Hahn-Cook Saturday, Feb. 8/Sunday, Feb. 9, 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m., 6006 N. Grand Blvd. Interment: Resurrection Cemetery. If you would prefer, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.
