Phil Wahl and Dr. Randy Scraper officiating. John Bob Duncan was born Feb. 22, 1909 in Loco to Mark Patterson Duncan and Icie Dora Butler Duncan, the youngest of a family of five brothers and one sister. He attended Loco schools through 11th grade, then finished high school in Duncan, graduating in 1927. Mr. Duncan attended the University of Oklahoma, working his way through, and graduated with a degree in pharmacy in 1930. He was president of the pharmacy fraternity and student council. After graduation, he worked in Sayer and Elk City. In 1934 he married Ree Ledbetter. As newlyweds, the went to Tulsa where Bob worked for Crawford Drugs. In 1937, Bob became a partner of Boone Drug in Oklahoma City. In 1945, he and Ree and their two children moved back to Duncan, and Bob became a partner of Palace Drug in Duncan and Graves Drug in Marlow. In 1948, Bob bought Nelson Drug Store in Duncan and founded Duncan's Drug at 710 Main. The store was later moved to McCasland Shopping Center and was the first self-serve store in Duncan. Bob was honored by the Oklahoma Drug Travelers Institute with the annual Prince of Druggist award in 1959. He helped the county agent start the Stephens County Junior Fat Stock Show, and worked with the show for many years. Bob was a member of the Duncan Chamber of Commerce, Exchange Club, Stephens County Historical Society, Duncan Rotary Club and the First United Methodist Church, where he served on the Board of Stewards. He and Ree attended the couples class there for many years. Bob loved gardening, and was well know locally for the lovely roses he raised. He was a volunteer test grower for a national supplier. bob loved to fish with his wife and her parents, and later with his grandchildren. He retired and sold the drug store in 1971. After retirement, he and Ree traveled for many years, enjoying the company of fellow Air Streamers. He and Ree later moved to a retirement center in Tulsa. He is preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and one sister. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Ree Ledbetter Duncan; his daughter, Patricia Thomson and her husband Ronald J. Thomson of Tulsa; his son, James R. Duncan and his wife Phyllis of Oklahoma City; five grandchildren, Michael J. Thomson and his wife Linda of Reno, Nev., Shari Schauer and husband Michael of Frisco, Texas, Cathy Akin of Weatherford, James R. Duncan Jr. and his wife Dixie of Seattle, and Diana Riggs of Tulsa; eight great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of dear friends. Pallbearers will be Michael Thomson, Michael Shaver, Casey Riggs, Carl Shelden, Darryl Shelden, James Duncan Jr. and Bill Thomson.
