She was born July 8, 1931 in Gotebo, Oklahoma. She was a long-time resident of Oklahoma City. She retired from the Putnam City School System in 1989, where she was serving as a guidance counselor. Betty had also served as a teacher, for a total of thirtyfive years in education. Betty Jo was preceded in death by her father, Ben Jenkins. She is survived by her husband, Harvey D. Denton; daughter, Jonita Cornelius and husband, Greg; two grandchildren, Stacy and Ben Cornelius; mother, Jettie Jenkins; brother, Archie Jenkins and wife, Reta; nephew, Clayton Jenkins and wife, Robbie; niece Regenia and husband, Reverend Rick Rogers; four great-nieces and one great-nephew. Betty touched many lives with her wonderful sense of humor and zest for life. She was a member of Mayfair Baptist Church, Oklahoma City. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa (Alpha Zeta) International Honorary Sorority for women educators. She was a long time member of Eastern Star. Beloved by many other friends, relatives and former students, she will be missed by all. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 29, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at Mayfair Baptist Church, 2715 N.W. 50th, Okla. City. Interment will be at 3:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Lawton, OK.
