Preston Edwards, Sr. died Dec. 29, 2002 after a short illness. He was born in the Argentine area of Kansas City, Kansas January 6, 1905 and was living in Oklahoma City at the time of his death. He was preceded in death by Elfreda Waite Edwards, his wife of 41 years and by Dorothy Gutherie Edwards, his wife of 24 years. Survivors include his two sons, Paul Waite Edwards of Alexandria, VA and J. Preston Edwards, Jr. of Oklahoma City, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Preston graduated second in his class from Argentine High School, and received a degree in industrial engineering from the University of Kansas in 1928. He worked in the steel industry in Texas and Oklahoma until 1960, when he accepted employment with the US Army Corps of Engineers, later transferring to the Department of Housing and Urban development. He retired from government service in 1974. For 24 years, Preston resided in Newton, Kansas with his wife Dorothy. Until recently, he maintained an active involvement in his community, his church, genealogical research, music, reading and time with his immediate and extended family. He loved to travel, and before and during his retirement, was fortunate to make several visits to Europe and the Middle East. At the time of his death, Preston had personally experienced the changes from a gas-lit urban environment to the computer age. Taking up computer technology at age 86, he developed and maintained an extensive e mail network. He lived a long and interesting life and enjoyed the journey. Internment will be private in Kansas City, KS. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the YWCA of Oklahoma City at 2460 N.W. 39 St., Oklahoma City, OK 73112. CREMATION SOCIETY 1145 W.
