She was born in Fargo, North Dakota on March 2, 1929. She is preceded in death by her mother Erna Behling, stepmother and father, Martha and Jacob M. Schmierer of Fargo. A loving stepsister and stepbrother Dorothy and George, also precede her in death. She is survived by her brother Ralph Schmierer of Fargo and sister Ruth Anderson of Dallas, TX. She leaves behind two daughters and two sons: Elizabeth and Richard Meadors of Piedmont, OK; Kathleen and Louis Funston of Belvedere, CA; Robert and Gretchen Ellis of Austin, TX; Michael and Michelle Ellis of Oklahoma City. She was blessed with ten grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Betty received a BS degree from North Dakota State University in 1950 where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. She then trained to be a certified dietitian at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI. Here she met her former husband, Robert Ellis, MD, and moved to Oklahoma City where she reared four children and became involved in community activities. She was active in the Junior League, Women's Medical Auxiliary, Sunbeam Home Board, Lyric Theater, OU Sigma Alpha Epsilon Mom's Club. She enjoyed golf and tennis at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club. Betty was an avid bridge player and animal lover until she passed. Memorial Services will be held Wednesday, September 18 at 2:00 p.m. at Nichols Hills United Methodist Church.
