Evvard passed peacefully in her sleep from natural causes on July 15, 2006. Born Feb. 24, 1915, in Chicago, Illinois, Evelyn grew up in Mesa, Arizona, the first daughter of Swedish immigrant farmers. She graduated from Phoenix College and University of Arizona, and then worked as a lab tech in California. She married John C. Evvard, and upon a later divorce, Evelyn moved to Tempe, Arizona, where she raised her two daughters. Evelyn obtained her Masters and Doctorate Degrees in Education from Arizona State University. She worked as a reading specialist in Lukachuki, Arizona, Las Vegas, New Mexico and Browning, Montana; she also taught university courses at Edmond, Oklahoma. Upon retiring in 1977, Evelyn moved to Modesto, CA, where she became the 2nd president of Modesto Institute of Continuing Learning (MICL), taught classes and brought enlightenment to her fellow MICL members. Evelyn was a prolific writer, joining Write it Down classes, and was a frequent contributor to Modesto Bee's Our Turn column. Evelyn will be remembered by her wit and by her colorful, creative posters. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents Victor and Ellen (Cederblom) Caullvine and a sister Shirley Cederblom. She is survived by daughters Jenny Krajewski of Modesto, CA, and Karin Armstrong of Idaho Falls, ID, sister Marie Rucker of Mesa, Arizona, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
