Therese was born in a small Russian village on the outskirts of Leningrad, Russia on February 2, 1912, during the reign of Czar Nicholas II. As a small girl she played in the Neva River, on which their village was located. She washed the family clothes in the Neva as was the custom back then. She married Jakob Fink on December 24, 1933, so that the German wedding festivities would be overshadowed by the holiday and not attract the attention of the Russian Communist authorities. Six years later, Jakob & Therese, with three children, experienced the beginning hardships of WWII. Three more children were born to Jakob & Theresa during subsequent years. The same God who protected them and preserved their family intact through Russia, Poland and Germany during these dreadful war years, is the same God who brought the family to the freedom they enjoyed in the United States. They entered the United States at Ellis Island in June 1952. In Oklahoma they were able to enjoy the American dream of owning land, as they purchased 160 acres south of Luther. Jakob was carried to his heavenly reward in 1995, and God continued to provide strength and refuge to Therese until her death. We thank God for his love and protection to our beloved parents and for the Salvation earned for them and all mankind by the death of his Son. Therese was preceded in death by her husband, Jakob Fink and one son: Erich Fink. She is survived by two sons: Viktor Fink of Jones, OK & Robert Fink of Norman, OK; three daughters: Elisabeth & husband, Franklin Karner of Midwest City, OK, Luci & husband, George Byam of Whitewater, Wisc, and Kathe & husband, Dean Hellekson of Oklahoma City. Therese has 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2003 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 706 Birch, Wellston, OK with interment in the Lutheran Cemetery South of Wellston, OK.
