'Al' Freshour passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2005. Al was born on April 14, 1921 in Emporia, Kansas. His parents were Moline and Harry Freshour, who preceded him in death, as did two brothers and a sister, and his son, Kenneth. He is survived by his wife, Winnie, and by three children, Ernie Freshour and his wife Helen of Oklahoma City, Linda Stevenson and her husband Mike of Keller, Texas, and Rhonda Richey and her husband Mike of Yukon, and six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Grace Popchoke, of Ralls, Texas. Al graduated from Pryor High School in 1939 and moved to Oklahoma City. He served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1942 to 1945 in the Pacific Theater. At the end of the war, he attended Hills Business College and began his career in the Petroleum Industry with Greenhead Oilfield Supply Co., which later became Demco. In 1950 he went to work as an accountant for United Transports. He was instrumental in forming Woods Petroleum Corporation, an oil and gas exploration company, and during his 35 years with Woods Petroleum the company became publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange. Al retired in 1984 as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. During his retirement he traveled and enjoyed golf. He was a life-long avid hunter and fisherman. He and Winnie enjoyed residing in their homes in Edmond and Scottsdale, Arizona. He was a member of All Souls' Episcopal Church, Nichols Hills, Oklahoma. In addition to being a member of numerous professional organizations, he was a member of the Beacon Club, the Petroleum Club, Oak Tree Golf Club, Oak Tree Golf & Country Club, Ancala Country Club, Scottsdale, Arizona, and the Garden of the Gods Club, Colorado Springs, Colorado. He supported various medical foundations at local hospitals. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, August 19, 2005, at All Souls' Episcopal Church, N.W. 63rd and Pennsylvania Ave. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Saint Anthony Hospital Foundation, 826 N.W. 11th, Oklahoma City, OK 73106.
