All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Gilchrist, Richard Scott "Dick" Richard Scott ('Dick') Gilchrist was born February 13, 1924 in Clinton, OK to Wallace and Annette Gilchrist. He was welcomed into God's presence on December 26, 2002 and joined his beloved wife of 47 years, Ginny, his parents; and brothers Ronald ('Skinny'), Arch and Jerry. Dick was a charter member and faithfully attended Quail Springs Church of Christ for more than 30 years. A member of our 'greatest generation', he enlisted in the Army in 1943 and served until receiving a hardship discharge in 1945, returning to Clinton, OK to help his mother with the family business, Gilchrist Plumbing, Sheet Metal, Heating and Air Conditioning. He attended OU and OSU before graduating from the Milwaukee School of Engineering in 1949. Again he returned to Clinton and Gilchrist Plumbing. In 1953, after a 6-month courtship, he married the love of his life, Barbara Virginia Avant. In 1957, they settled in OKC and Dick went to work at Continental Baking Co. as a maintenance engineer where he was employed for 28 1/2 years until 1986. He was active in the International Assoc. of Machinists and Aero Space Workers serving in various capacities including Trustee, Steward, and President of the Local Union. Always creative, he enjoyed producing stained glass originals and was a member of Central OK Art Glass Guild serving as a past-president. A hardworking man with a talent for fixing nearly anything, he was also a compassionate father and friend. Dick supported his children's interests by becoming involved in Boy Scouts and never missed a father-daughter event. He was an avid traveler until his health failed. Dick is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Sam Frazier, Edmond; his son and daughter-in law, Rodger and Tina Gilchrist, Blanchard, OK; his son Richard Gilchrist, Edmond and daughter and son-in-law Annette and Joshua Perry, Chicago, IL; grandchildren and a great grandchild; his sisters Margaret Deaver, Wichita, KS and Fran Foust, Tulsa, OK. Dick will be missed by his family, but after rehabilitating from multiple hip and knee replacements and struggling with IPF, we know he's gone to a place without pain or fear. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his children. Memorials may be made to The Kids' Place, Edmond, OK. A memorial celebration will be held at 1:00 p.m., Sat., Dec. 28th, 2002, at Quail Springs Church of Christ Chapel. DEMUTH FUNERAL HOME 1145 W.
